Today we celebrate America declaring its independency from the colonists. So much has changed since that day July 4, 1776. Some may not find this a proper comparison but there is still great work left to do here in America the Great and in the world. Our country may have made recognizable strides but many are still fighting for freedom from oppression in others forms: domestic violence, racism, child abuse, war torn countries, sex trafficking, equal education, LGBT rights, women’s rights, to love and be loved. Some may find this comparison inappropriate. I ask you what good is a free country when the people in the country aren’t free to enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?
One thing I’m most grateful for is the freedom I’ve found in knowing Christ. He loves me as I am, flaws and all. John 3:16 declares that GOD loved the world and took action. It wasn’t because America was more powerful. It wasn’t because he could forgive the opposite for engaging in a relationship more than same sex couples. He didn’t select only those with wealth or those without.
Today as you enjoy fireworks, your family, food and fun; take a moment to evaluate your own life and the life of those around you. Decide how you can better champion the cause(s) for everyoneto be independent of oppression . Christ did. Won’t you be a representation of HIS love?
Happy Fourth of July!
