Festive for the Holidays

Hello divamoms & divas,

Can you believe we are almost at the start of the new year. 2012! How many of you have played these digits in your state’s lottery? Forget me not if you win. #seriously

I’m finally getting around to posting my overdue Christmas post to showcase my gifts from the Blogger secret santa I participated in. Kourtney at was so gracious to coordinate this with fellow bloggers and it was a blast.

I received my package about 3 days before Christmas. Here is what it included:

Funny thing, I was paired with Schevashea of Curves & Confidence. How ironic is that?! We  met a few months ago while attending a blogger’s brunch at Elle’s. You can read her post here and see all the goodies I sent.

And finally one of my fantastic holiday looks. I’ve been off from work a week now but before I left I was sure to be decorative and festive. I found this tank at Forever 21 last year. I jazzed it up with black jeans from Forever 21, a very old Gap blazer hence the fading (I did iron it the night before but ummm I don’t know what happened.) and my Jessica Simpson I’m a divamom heels. Ohhh weeeee!!!!!!!!! #hotmama

Isn’t KT a great photographer?  Although I’m thinking of investing in a tripod for the birthday. 22 days before I turn 21 (cross my heart, lolol). He had a fantastic Christmas.

The 4th & 3rd Day of Christmas

Hello Divamoms & Divas,

Are you ready for Christmas? Or did you run out today to do some last minute shopping? Sorry I didn’t post a tune for you yesterday. We had a long day at work and from there I went straight to volunteering at a home that serves families who are away from home for orthopedic surgery. The families are able to stay for free for an extended period and just relax and focus on rehabilitation.

Today was shopping day. I’m always out the day or so before Christmas. Why? I don’t put a lot of emphasis on having anything under my tree which I just put up a week ago. I do purchase things for KT but it usually the same things video games, books, clothes and food, shelter, band fees, transportation…ok so I went there. LOLOL :)

At the moment I can’t locate my camera and I have a look I really want to share from work this week. Yesterday was my last day for the next two weeks. As soon as it is located I’ll post it for you. It falls into the festive category. Right now I’m off to wrap gifts and read a novel. I checked about 6 books for the break and ordered a case and light for my Kindle. Yep I’m a divaNERDmom.

Happy Holidays,

The 5th Day of Christmas

My intentions were to do an outfit post of today's festive look. I even tweeted a sneak peek but umm I forgot to mail off my blogger secret Santa package so I was scrambling after church tonight to get the package together. I'll get the post up by Friday since it will be the start of my winter break. #LifeofaTeacher

Tomorrow we are volunteering to feed the homeless. It is our last gift as a family to someone in need. I want to instill in my son the true meaning of this holiday and that's to celebrate the birth of CHRIST and the unmatched gift given to the world.

Isaiah 9:6
For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His should, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Enjoy the reminder of why we celebrate this holiday,

The 6th Day of Christmas

I had a rough day at work today. I won't go into details on the post. I want to thank each of you who reached out to me on Facebook. The Serenity Prayer will carry me through this week. Sometimes we need to keep it simple. With that being said, I don't want to lose my joy and ruin the festiveness of this joyous occasion.

Christ wasn't born to provide me, you, the world with joy only during the month of December or when the day was difficult although I am truly grateful that His joy is available. He came to provide me, you, the world peace and joy 180 days of each year.

This song is so fitting. Enjoy!

Inspiration by Style Pantry for the 7th Day of Christmas

Hello Divamoms & Divas,

Another post inspired by one of my favorite blogger moms Style Pantry. I’ve posted a double denim look before but once I saw this I ran to my closet and grabbed my GAP jeans to remix with my denim shirt from Target.

Only five days until Christmas. KT only asked for two things. He’ll get them on Christmas Eve or the following Monday. I’m blessed to have a kid who doesn’t go overboard and he understands that his daily provision is a blessing and we don’t turn Jesus’ birthday into a get in debt season.

Here's the inspiration:
I can’t sign off without posting the 7th day of Christmas song.  Today I took my laptop to work and played some tunes for the kids. There was a time I would play music every day all day really low and the kids loved it. I’m not sure why I stopped but today a kid asked if I would so more often. I plan to load some more jazz and classical music in a playlist for them. I will never deprive them of anything that will enhance the learning environment and experience.  I aims to please the kids (typing this with a sideye). #don’tjudgeme

Festive Looks on the 8th Day of Christmas

Hello Divamoms & Divas,

Today KT and I finally put up our Charlie Brown tree and it is absolutely beautiful. Decorating with my son keeps us focused on the true meaning of Christmas which for us is Christ centered, family, love and quality time.

I also spent the day with my two little sisters after church. I cooked and we watched Sex and the City. Not exactly Christmas centered but they didn’t want to join me in catching up on old episodes of my favorite tv series Friday Night  Lights.

Today has been memorable. I can’t believe we are almost in 2012 and I’ll be celebrating another 26th birthday. This is my blog and I can be any age in my head!

I wanted to share a few pictures of two tops I found last year at the local Goodwill after the holidays. The sweater only gets worn to church. Bishop keeps is really cold. Otherwise, I fall out from a heat stroke. Despite it being for a colder climate it is a gem.

The embroidered kinda like a sweatshirt top was worn to work Friday. I wanted to look festive for our holiday luncheon. I don’t do old men Christmas sweaters so this thrifted top was the next best choice.  These two looks prove dressing festive for the holiday doesn’t have to break your bank or set you back. Collectively my mom probably paid less than $6 for both of these with her discount. So hit those thrift stores and get all dolled up for those holiday parties.

Sending Joy to Your World,

P.S. and the song for today is:

The 9th Day of Christmas

Am I the only one still putting up the Christmas tree? I have a good reason why KT & I are not finished with the task but seriously I'm superduper late. Regardless of not having up the decorations or any gifts under the tree, Donnie has me convinced this one will be a very special one.

Wishing you a a wonderful holiday season,

The 10th Day of Christmas

Hello Divamoms & Divas,

Are you ready for Christmas?! This song should make you want to be in the arms of the one you love. Oh how I miss Luther! Mr. Vandross can sing anything, anytime, anywhere for any occasion. It is definitely fitting to share a song from his This Is Christmas cd. Do own this cd? What's your favorite track?

Grab some mistletoe and kiss the one you love!

Inspired by Ty

 Hello divamoms & divas,

Hope your Thursday is as terrific as the feeling of having you stop by. This look was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers Ty. See it here. Stunning!

I am really looking forward to winter break. I can’t wait to catch up on the blogs I subscribe to and get ideas to remix my closet. I can be honest that is one of the reasons I started posting blog pictures. I was a big fashion blog stalker and was inspired to be give up the matchy matchy and be creative with the pieces I own.

I haven’t been shopping in months and don’t foresee me going anytime soon so I’m enjoying the looks I discover on blogs that are perfect for the South Florida weather this time of the year. No old man winter here.

How did I do?

Don’t forget I’ll be posting 12 of my favorite Christmas songs until Christmas day. I’ve already posted one here and here.

Happy Holidays,

The 11th Day of Christmas

Aren't you glad Christ was born?

The 12th Day of Christmas

Hello divamoms & divas,

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am going to celebrate the 12 remaining days until Christmas with you by sharing some of my favorite songs. I only have 138 songs in my iTunes Christmas list. Plus I tune into to 105.5 in November so I am all pumped up to sing, Sing, SING.

My favorite part of this song is around the 2:56 mark when Fred breaks it down & takes us to church! Amen :) Hope you enjoy.

Be sure to go and tell of the Savior's birth!

Morning Motivation: Just Say Amen

Good morning divamoms & divas,

I heard this song yesterday as I prepared myself to attend church. What impacted me tremendously is this song spoke the answer to my struggles, cares and concerns.

This post is to remind you that GOD is always working on your behalf and mine. Don't focus on the video but the lyrics. If you know Andre Crouch from back in the day, you know him as a prolific song writer.

After you listen, let me know how this song encouraged, uplifted and inspired you.

Praying GOD'S richest blessings on you today,

Air Kisses,

in the nude

Hello divamoms & divas,

How was your weekend? Saturday night I went to a Christmas party to raise money for scholarships. No pictures. Today was church and the kid cooked a delicious pot of spaghetti, corn on the cob and garlic bread. I’m so proud to be his mom. I wore to church today. It seems the only time I can get in a blog photo shoot is after service. I wish we had more time but my life feels busier than when I as in grad school.

Please continue to pray for me regarding reenrolling. I’m still having a difficult time not being in school. Honestly, I’m been in failure mode. I really want to complete my degree. Although some of the circumstances are out of my hand, I still feel like I’ve got to find a way to make it happen when what I really need to do is focus on my immediate tasks and opportunities while allowing GOD to fulfill His promise.

In addition to allowing the hair I was born with find its way back onto my head I’ve been wearing my glasses more. I know this is your first time seeing me in them. Mostly because I don’t feel comfy in them but when I wear them folks are always complimenting me. Today in church I was pulled aside and told I look like a professor. Of course, I cheesed really hard.

Well it’s late and I’ve yet to iron for the week. Here’s to wish you a great week. Stay tuned for the 12 days of Christmas. I’ll be sharing with you 12 songs that are some of my all time favorite Christmas hits.

blue + grey & my hair today

Hello divamoms & divas,

I’m so glad you haven’t unsubscribed. I have so much to update you on and will try not to do it all in one post. KT and I haven’t taken photos for an outfit post in weeks. Don’t worry I haven’t been struck by the uncreative bug. The timing has been my biggest hindrance. Getting my son to photograph me before school will make me late for work. I’m one of those people who arrive at the required hour. After work it is too dark although I could take them in the school. Problem with that is after teaching 5 periods and tutoring afterschool I am in no mood to touch retouch my makeup or put my heels back on for pictures. So bear with me on the outfits but keep coming back because I have plans to write more from the heart.

I wore this to church today. There’s nothing amazing about the look except the tights (purchased 2 years or more ago at Target) and my favorite & ONLY pair of Michael Kors shoes. These shoes are dazzling. I had two people at church ask me to leave them when I left service today. Ummmm no ma’am these were so splurge worthy.

Let me thank you all for the encouragement on growing out my hair. I’ll be honest and say I’m not fond of these pictures. I am not accustomed to seeing myself with hair and I look ‘funny’…I don’t know different. I actually think I look better in person. How does the saying go? A picture never lies. Well these do, lolol because I really look much better face to face. For the first time in my natural journey I like my TWA (teeny weeny afro).  This transition is much better than others I’ve had. Yeah, I’ve been natural on and off for years with both long and short hair.

I’ve been reading so many blogs which is why I haven’t been writing. I felt it is necessary to learn to care for my hair this time around if I am serious about a growing healthy well moisturized head of hair. So these photos mark one month. I co wash once per week and keep my hair spritzed with jojoba oil, extra virgin olive oil, extra virgin coconut oil & water and seal with EVCO. My leave in conditioner is Cantu Shea Butter and I co-wash with Suave almond and shea butter conditioner. I really like to Shea Moisture’s Curly Smoothie as my daily moisturizer because it makes my hair curly tightly and hides the awkwardness of the length. I can’t wait until I can two strand twist it again.  This process is teaching me patience! As I mentioned in an earlier post this won’t become a hair blog but I’ll keep you all updated.

I hope you had a wonderful day in your respective houses of worship. Nothing beats being in church to be uplifted, encouraged and motivated to keep striving for GOD’S best life already planned out for me. Hearing the choir sing Fred Hammond’s Living Word today was inspiring. The song is an oldie but goodie that reminds me of why December is the most wonderful time of the year. Christ was born J.

I’m glad that you are still here with me on this journey.  I’d love to hear what the most inspirational moment was for you today. Do sound off below and leave a comment.

On A HAIR Mission

Happy Sunday Divamoms & Divas,

I won't apologize for not posting. I've been relaxing, enjoying KT, working, and reading a great deal. I believe your visit here is so much better when I give you quality rather than quantity. Plus I want to share some personal things that I've been pondering and praying about. Or should I say some lessons I've learned and am learning as I continue to travel this road called life dealing with the good & bad.  I'm looking forward to the Thanksgiving break from work and seeing my family. What are your plans?

I wanted to share with you in case you don't follow me on Twitter that I recently made the decision to grow out my brush cut. I know how much many of you love it on me.  I do too. Truth is I've been rocking this cut for almost 3 years and I in need of a change. I'm actually prepping myself to move towards consuming only chicken, fish and turkey. That's another blog post and I hope my best Q isn't reading this :).

So instead of posting here on my blog, I've been educating myself about natural hair. SERIOUSLY! I have spent hours on YouTube and reading natural hair blogs. I even joined a forum.  I've been natural for many years on and off. I've worn my hair bald, brush cut, fro, long in a puff because I didn't know how to care for long natural tresses, braided and two strand twisted.

Yesterday I was looking through old photos for motivation to take this journey. I pulled out photos where I liked the way I looked with mid length/longer natural hair. Others not so much. This is where the doubt comes in that I can let it go and grow. I hate the in-between stage. I don't like the pull back look with a hand-band on me and I'm too old for two strand twists on a fro (not sure how to explain this).

My mom is natural and my best returned to the community as well as fellow blogger Roodlyn at The support is there. I'm working on learning my hair and becoming a better divamom on the inside as the outside changes. I'm not sure how much I'll share on my blog. I don't want to talk products and try and re-teach what's already out there. Maybe the pictures of the journey? Let me know your thoughts.

Hope each of you are well. I CAN'T BELIEVE I HAVE 171 FOLLOWERS. Thank you oh so much!

wearing them again

 Hello divamoms & divas,

I hope that you had a terrific Thursday. This entire week has been busy for me. I work four days a week after school & this week my church was hosting our annual Fall Conference. We had a great time of praise, worship and fellowship.  Our theme was Breakthrough. It is my desire that I continue to move beyond any limitations in my life to walk in my destiny. Amen? I can’t imagine anything worse than not living your best life (in my Joyce Meyer voice).

We’ve been at school today since 8 ish this morning. Tonight KT had a band concert to honor Veterans. I must admit this was one of the best concerts I’ve attended at TMS. I’m so proud of my photographer, musician and honor roll achieving son!

I wasn’t going to post this outfit because I didn’t really like it myself. Looking down at the skirt from my p.o.v. it appeared the skirt was big and bulky. I’ve worn this skirt before here. Can I just confess to you that I love this top? If only Zara would markdown a few more cute tops so I can continue to remix my wardrobe without spending much. This shirt was less than $10 = win.

After KT took the photos I decided that I really liked the look. I wanted to dress a bit more relaxed since I knew I wouldn’t have time to go home and change for the concert. A student asked me if I was in love with Cheetahs today. At first I was kinda confused O_o. This shirt isn’t cheetah print (is it?) If you know my students they say some crazzzyyy things. But she was referring to my apparent need to wear some type of animal print once a week.  But she did say I looked nice. Guess that makes it a win.

Before I got I just want to say this necklace is uh-maz-ing. Yep I typed uh-maz-ing. I paid $8 for this at a thrift sale to benefit some charity this summer and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made looking for jewelry. I see statement necklaces in magazines that are so expensive and I always say to self: “Self, you can find this at a local thrift store.”

You don’t talk to yourself? LOLOL!!

Everbody every wear: colored tights + a thrifted dress

Hello divamoms & divas,

I hope everyone is having a great start to the week. I’m super busy this week but wanted to participate in this challenge since I’ve missed a few.

This dress has been seen on my blog a few times and I absolutely love it. Give me floral prints, bright colors and pockets in a dress and I won’t leave it behind. You can throw in some colored tights and create a whole new look. My new mantar is  the best things in life are often thrifted!

Before I go let me welcome my new followers. I hope you've taken a moment to catch up on my blog to get a glimpse of what I do here. I pray that you are encouraged, motivated and inspired through my struggles, victories and love for fashion. Muah!!

Unedited Bird Photos

Hello divamoms & divas,

I knew this title would pique your interest. There will be absolutely no posting of birds today; although I do take pictures of the birds and ducks that hang out in my apartment complex. Some of the ducks will chase you for food. This has happened to KT and I on two occasions. And I assure you it was not funny.

I titled this post as such because of the color and the bird on my cardigan. Blue is one of my favorite colors. The day I took the photos the weather was perfect. After viewing them in PhotoScape (thanks Eboni) I decided not to edit them. What you see is what my wonderful 12 year old son took with my Canon Powershot. He's been hounding me lately to be sure to give him credit for the photos taken and posted here.

KT thank you for taking pictures for mommy even though most days it is with a mean face and haphazardly clicking while you rush me, LOLOL! I do appreciate that you find time to make mommie's hobby come to fruition. Xo!

Everything I’m wearing is really old except the watch, costume ring and shoes. I wasn’t sure of the whole belted cardigan but if FLOTUS makes it hot then I’m willing to channel my First Lady’s style. Let me know what you think.

Tank: Old Navy
Cardiagn: Target
Belt: Borrowed from Ann Taylor dress
Skirt: Old (Ross or Marshall's)
Sandals: Nine West
Watch: Michael Kors
Bangles: Old
Blue Ring: H & M

A BIG thanks to you for taking the time out of your busy day to visit my blog and comment.

Do know this journey would be extremely boring without you Sending blogger love to Betty Boop Creator of  Shop with Betty Boop for the feature here,   Corie at Its My Taste for the feature here and LV for the blog award here. I'll do the random facts next post.

Enjoy the weekend. I hope I can stay awake to watch #2 Alabama beat up on #1 ranked LSU in an hour. Y’all know I’m a college game day junkie but I’ve missed a few of my alma matar’s
***Gooooo S.E.M.I.N.O.L.E.S.***
games so I need a fix today until my team returns to the field next Saturday.
